Xu Zhimo (1897-1931) was a renowned Chinese poet, essayist, and translator, known for his significant contributions to the development of modern Chinese poetry. Born in Zhejiang Province, he was the cousin of the famous poet Xu Jingzi and a member of the Crescent Poetry Club. Xu Zhimo received his education in both the United States and the United Kingdom, studying political economics at Cambridge University.
His poetry is characterized by its romanticism and aesthetic sensitivity, deeply influenced by Western romanticism and aesthetics. Some of his most famous works include "Goodbye Again, Cambridge!" and "I'm So Alone but Full." Xu Zhimo's works often explore themes of love, nature, and the beauty of the Chinese landscape, reflecting his passion for freedom and beauty throughout his life.
Tragically, Xu Zhimo died on November 19, 1931, in a plane crash near Tai'an, Shandong Province. Despite his short career, he remains an influential figure in the history of modern Chinese literature, and his poetry continues to be celebrated and studied around the world.
